PH Sports Commission Urged To Ban Media Outlets Spreading Fake News In SEA Games

A Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) official said Tuesday, November 26 that a photo showing the Philippine flag used as a table skirt was from a different event, and not at the Southeast Asian Games this week,

PSC Executive-Director Guillermo Iroy said that upon investigating the alleged PH flag used as mantle for the catering, the said Facebook posting was found to be malicious and fake news.

The PSC checked various SEA Games venues and discovered that the photo was not from this year’s competition, but from a different event.

According to PSC Executive-Director Iroy that they appreciate constructive criticism, but they deplore the fake news that came out just to create public outrage, adding that SEA Games should unite us rather than divide us.

PSC Officials also debunked a post by Angel Movido claiming that the newly renovated woman’s comfort room at the Rizal Stadium has two toilets in one cubicle.

PSC corrected the said fake news explaining that the photo on the left was taken while the facility was under renovation.

While photo on the right is actual photo taken Wednesday, November 27 of the said comfort room at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Filipino netizens were abuzz when alleged reports of Muslim athletes from the Singaporean team being served with pork meals prompting negative reactions even from social media users across Southeast Asia.

It turned out to be a hoax when the hotel issued a clarification and denied that they served such meals to the team.

PSC posted on their Facebook Page that SCMP Journalist Nazvi Careem apologized to them and to all affected by the poor judgment in the article about food at the SEA Games.

The fake news journalist takes full responsibility and will ensure stricter standards.

Even President Rodrigo Duterte is not pleased by what he has been hearing about the certain snafu, certain delays, certain allegations of athletes not being fed properly, of athletes arriving late or not on time delivered to their places of rest or residence.

The President is very displeased that is why the House of Representatives condemns misinformation and fake news in SEA Games.

Lawmakers cited six incidents carried by the media that were later found to be false and insisted that the makeshift press center that was photographed by local and international media was also a misrepresentation of the truth.

Among these is the servicing of “alleged kikiam” which was actually chicken sausage.

As a result of these fake news, the Philippines is painted as a complete failure in its hosting of the SEA Games 2019.

Yes, these fake news purveyors may have corrected their mistakes but the damage has been done.

Netizens cannot take it anymore after these anti-duterte reporters and media networks caught red-handed spreading fake news about SEA Games 2019.

Filipino netizens decries to stop spreading fake news and urged the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee and all the concerned National Sports Associations (NSAs) to ban and remove as an official media partner all media networks guilty of publishing fake news, spreading lies and misinformation about SEA Games 2019 to cover the said event from November 30 to December 11, 2019.
