President Rodrigo Duterte claimed that an Islamic group previously made threats while avoiding to categorically identify the AbuSayaff group about the explosion that happened in Davao City last September 2 at the Roxas night market.

On the other hand, Duterte's assertion towards the AbuSayaff group reiterated the statement that Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who claimed that the group was behind the attack to get back in reprisal for the operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines attack against the AbuSayaff over the same week.

“While nobody has come up to own the act we can only assume that this was perpetrated by the terrorist group Abu Sayaff that has suffered heavy casualties in Jolo in the past weeks,” Lorenzana stated.

“We have predicted this and has warned our troops accordingly but the enemy is also adept at using the democratic space granted by our constitution to move around freely and unimpeded to sow terror,” He added.

Lorenzana stated that the Eastern Command in Davao City had been instructed to assist the Philippine National Police (PNP) in preserving peace and order in the city and in the uneasiness of the people against those who wants harm for our country.

Duterte declared early Saturday morning at Roxas Avenue where the explosion happened hours earlier before the devastating event took place.

"They gave us the warning. Not only in Jolo, but in other places. We were forewarned, we were ready," President said, aware that his law enforcement and people from intelligence were in Davao City that day.

"Unfortunately, we cannot frisk or order people to stop and search because that could be fascistic. Then that is not a democracy anymore. That is the price of being a democratic state." Duterte added leaving the possibility that other groups such as those who are involved in drugs are also related with the bombing in Davao.

"Everybody is a suspect. Of course, ASG made the threat. We will look into that,"

"There will be, I said, a reprisal for all of these things. Maybe because of the Sulu incident. At least we know who made the threats." Duterte added that he warned about the dangers of terrorism over several series of speeches before talking about law enforcement. Currently, the tragic event will be a prioritized matter for the police while investigations are still taking place.
