Woman Almost Dies From Stroke After Using Phone For 20 Hours Straight

A woman suffered multiple blood clots and underwent an emergency operation after using her mobile phone for 20 hours during a train journey.

The 47-year-old Chinese woman was traveling for work from China’s Henan Province to the city of Guangzhou, according to local media reports.

But as soon as she alighted from the train, she fainted and had to be rushed to The First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, where doctors found out that she had a stroke.

Doctors carried out an emergency operation to remove several blood clots from her brain measuring nearly 2 cm.

They added that the woman had twice the amount of blood clots compared to an average patient.

Giving an explanation of the woman’s condition, Dr. Meng, the deputy head of the hospital’s neurology department said that as there were many people on board the train, the woman had stayed in the same posture and position throughout most of her ride.

“Her head was tilted to the right and looking at her mobile phone, which had put significant pressure on the blood vessels on her neck,” he said.

The woman told the news outlets that she was shocked to learn that her actions had resulted in a stroke.

However, Dr. Meng noted that there has been an increasing number of younger patients suffering from the same condition.

He advised mobile phone users to adopt a good posture, not to stay too long in the same position and take breaks.

“Turning the head to look at the mobile phone for prolonged periods of time can compress the neck’s blood vessels. Maintaining the same posture for too long can also cause poor blood circulation which may form blood clots,” Dr. Meng added.
