President Duterte Most Approved, Most Trusted PH President Since Erap, GMA, PNoy
A year after becoming the country’s chief executive,
President Rodrigo Duterte recorded the highest net trust rating among
Philippine presidents since Joseph “Erap” Estrada, according to a Pulse Asia survey.
The Pulse Asia, which released Thursday, November 9, a
comparative data of the approval and trust ratings of President Duterte, former
Presidents Estrada, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III, also
said the incumbent president tied with his predecessor in terms of highest net
approval rating after a year in office.
The survey data, culled from 1999 to 2017, had President Duterte
obtaining a net trust rating of +74 in its September 2017 survey or its first
survey since the sitting president celebrated his first year in office.
President Duterte assumed the presidency on June 30, 2016.
The data showed 80 percent of Filipinos expressed trust on President
Duterte while 6 percent expressed distrust and 14 percent were undecided if
they trust or distrust the incumbent president which yielded a net trust core
of +74 (percent of trust minus percent of distrust).
President Duterte is more trusted than Aquino, who obtained
a net trust score of + 70 (75 percent trust, 5 percent distrust and 19 percent
undecided) recorded in August 2011.
Aquino assumed the presidency on June 30, 2010.
Arroyo recorded a higher net trust score of +23 (45 percent
trust, 22 percent distrust, and 33 percent undecided) in April 2002 or a little
over a year since she was catapulted to the presidency after Estrada was
deposed in January 2001, compared to the year after she was elected as president
in 2004.
Arroyo recorded a -34 net trust score in October 2005 (21
percent approval, 55 percent disapproval, and 25 percent undecided).
Estrada obtained a +11 net trust rating (39 percent
approval, 28 percent disapproval, and 33 percent undecided) in the December 1999 survey.
He became president on June 30, 1998 but the Pulse Asia
trust rating survey data was only available starting December 1999.
The Pulse Asia comparative data also showed that President Duterte and
Aquino tied in having the highest net approval of +73 (percent of approval
minus percent of disapproval.
President Duterte obtained a higher approval rating of 80
percent approval (7 percent disapproval, 13 percent undecided) in the September
2017 survey over Aquino who recorded a 77 percent approval rating (4 percent
disapproval, 18 percent undecided) in August 2011.
Estrada had a higher net approval score of +44 (61 percent
approval, 17 percent disapproval and 22 percent undecided) recorded in
September 1999, compared to his successor Arroyo who recorded a net approval
score of +36 (57 percent approval, 21 percent and 22 percent undecided) in
April 2002, and a -28 (24 percent approval, 52 percent disapproval and 24
percent undecided) in October 2005.
