Iloilo Police Overhauled With Chief Jovie Espenido’s Arrival
Chief Inspector Jovie R. Espenido is now officially assigned
at the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Region 6 (Western Visayas) following his
stint at the Police Regional Office (PRO 10) in Northern Mindanao.
PRO 6 spokesperson Gilbert Gorero said Special Order 8834
from the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) dated
August 29 relieved Espenido from his previous post and reassigned him to PRO 6.
The order was received by PRO 6 Tuesday evening.
“His designation will follow after his courtesy call on
PRO6,” Gorero said in a text message.
Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director, Senior
Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, was also relieved from his post and was
promoted as chief directorial staff (CDS) of PRO 6 by virtue of Special Order
8833.
He will replace Senior Superintendent Nolasco K. Bathan as
CDS who, in turn, will be assigned to PRO Calabarzon as acting deputy regional
director for operations (DRDO).
Canieso’s relief has nothing to do with the transfer of
Espenido as he personally asked for a transfer as a prerequisite to a higher
position during the visit of PNP chief, Director-General Ronald Dela Rosa on
August 14, Gorero said.
PRO 6 deputy director, Senior Superintendent Jesus Cambay,
was temporarily designated as officer-in-charge (OIC) of the ICPO.
On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that the next
assignment of Espenido will be in Iloilo to help in the fight against illegal
drugs.
Espenido’s reassignment in this region was warmly received
by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, who was earlier linked by President Duterte to
illegal drugs.
Mabilog, in a previous interview, welcomed Espenido’s
assignment so he could report to President Duterte what the city government has
done to address the issue on illegal drugs.
