DPWH Starts Construction Of P1.6 Billion BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) unveiled
on Wednesday, July 19 the construction of a road link between the commercial
district of Ortigas Business Center, Pasig City and Bonifacio Global City in
Taguig City.
In a groundbreaking ceremony at Bonifacio Global City in
Taguig City, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, Department of Transportation
Secretary Arthur P. Tugade, Bases Conversion and Development Authority
President and CEO Vivencio B. Dizon, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority
Chairman Danilo D. Lim, and Mayor Maria Laarni L. Cayetano led the laying of
capsule to usher the start of P1.6 Billion Bonifacio Global City (BGC)-Ortigas
Center Link Road Project.
Also in attendance were DPWH Undersecretaries Raul C. Asis, Karen Olivia V. Jimeno, and Emil K. Sadain, Assistant Secretary Eugenio E. Pipo, DOTR Undersecretary Reinier Yebra, Makati City Mayor Mar-len Abigal Binay, BCDA Vice President Joshua Bingcang, Fort Bonifacio Development Corp. Commercial Operations Head Manuel Blas II, DPWH Project Director Virgilio C. Castillo, and District Engineer Roberto Nicolas.
The 961.427-lineal meter Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas
Center Link Road Project involves the construction of a 4-lane Sta. Monica to
Lawton Bridge across Pasig River connecting Lawton Avenue in Makati City and
Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City and a viaduct structure traversing Lawton
Avenue onwards to the entrance of Bonifacio Global City.
Secretary Villar said that the event is one of the many groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies for new infrastructure projects as the country ushers in the Golden Age of Infrastructure in the next five years of the President Rodrigo R. Duterte administration.
The Bonifacio Global City (BGC)-Ortigas Center Link Road
will lead to the improvement of accessibility between the Cities of Pasig,
Mandaluyong, Taguig and Makati.
“Once completed by March 2020, travelling between the central business districts of Taguig and Pasig Cities will only take 12 minutes and traffic congestion at EDSA and C-5 Road particularly along Guadalupe Bridge and Bagong Ilog Bridge will be alleviated by about 25 percent,” Secretary Villar added.
Other than the Sta. Monica to Lawton Bridge component of the
Bonifacio Global City (BGC)-Ortigas Center Link Road Project, DPWH has
identified the construction of 12 new bridges crossing the Pasig-Marikina River
and the Manggahan Floodway as an urgent priority to provide fixed links over
these rivers that will increase the road network capacity in Metro Manila.
Two of the bridges namely construction of state-of-the-art
Binondo-Intramuros and Estrella-Pantelon Bridges in Manila and
Makati/Mandaluyong will be constructed under full grant financing of the
Republic of China.
Other planned bridges are the North and South Habor Bridge,
2nd Ayala Bridge (Carlos Palanca-San Marcelino, Beata-F.Y. Manalo Bridge
(Pandacan-Sta. Ana), F. Blumentritt-Antipolo Bridge, Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge,
Kabayani-Katipunan Bridge, Reposo-Guatemala Bridge, J.P. Rizal-Yale Bridge, G.
Gabriel St.-Mercury Ave. Bridge, East Bank-West Bank Bridge 1, and East
Bank-West Bank Bridge 2.
