Duterte Administration To Build 20,000 Housing Units For The Poor In Cebu By July This Year
At least 20,000 socialized housing units will soon rise in
the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue and other towns in Cebu Province.
The housing units for Metro Cebu will form part of the one
million units of socialized housing project for the Visayas of the
administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino,
in an interview, said that the Government of China is willing to undertake the
project at a lower cost to the beneficiaries.
The project is expected to be implemented by the third
quarter of this year, according to Dino.
Dino said that after he assumed his post he has been firm on
his stand to provide better housing for the poor.
As proposed, Dino said that Local Government Units (LGUs)
will provide for the lots where the houses will be built.
The MalacaƱang Representative said that his office has
already determined Province-owned lots from the three cities where the project
will be built.
“I want to emphasize how important socialized housing is. We’ve
already identified the sites. It’s owned by the Province (Provincial Government
of Cebu). We will link the Government of China to the local government here for
the negotiations. China will construct (the houses), and payments will be long
term,” said Dino.
He said that an LGU would directly negotiate with the
Government of China to discuss the terms and conditions that would be
applicable and affordable for the beneficiaries.
Dino added that under the proposed project, the estimated
cost for each housing unit is at least P300,000.
