President Duterte Orders All Mayors To Crack Down Illegal Drugs In Their Cities, Municipalities
President Rodrigo Duterte orders
Mayors from all over the country to crack down illegal drugs in their
respective cities and municipalities.
Ayungon, Negros Oriental Mayor
Edsel Enardecido, the President of the League of Municipalities of the
Philippines, said President Duterte told the local officials to intensify their
efforts against illegal drugs and use their intelligence funds.
“Kung magkakasala kayo in line with
the campaign against illegal drugs, I am behind you. Kung matatanggal kayo,
kung kakasuhan kayo, kung ma-convict kayo, inabswelto ko kaagad dito sa
presidential pardon,” Enardecido said in Chino Gaston’s report on State of the
Nation.
President Duterte on January 11,
2017 met with over a thousand Mayors to discuss his war on illegal drugs.
“PRRD’s renewed call for
no-nonsense drive against narco-politics and his call for united stance against
drugs,” Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad said.
In a radio interview, Presidential
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar explained that the meeting was “very
intimate” and “highly confidential.”
He later added that President
Duterte did not reprimand the Mayors as reported in at least one newspaper.
“It’s not a confrontation. It's
like a father who wants to talk to his children. Just like a Barangay Captain
wanting to talk to all his Kagawad. You have the President, who is the leader
of everything, Chief Executive, Commander-in-Chief. He is the head of everybody
and he wanted to talk to the local government,” Andanar said.
