95% Of Dabawenyos Satisfied With President Duterte’s Performance

A survey showed that majority of the Dabawenyos is satisfied with the performance of former mayor and now Philippine President Rody Duterte and the national administration.

The results of the city-wide social survey were presented Thursday, December 8, at the Ateneo de Davao University.

The City-Wide Social Survey is a survey done by the Social Research Training and Development Office in cooperation with Ateneo de Davao University Research Council every six months and is currently on its third year and sixth series.

The survey is being conducted in different parts of Davao City, reaching the far-flung villages like Paquibato, located near the border of Davao City and Bukidnon.

Furthermore, the respondents of the survey were aged 18 to 90 years old, most of which are senior citizens, because they are the ones usually left at home while the other members of the family were off to school and work, followed by young professionals aging 20 to 24 years old.

The genders of the respondents were also equally distributed as 50 percent male and 50 percent female.

Almost 95 percent of the survey respondents said they are satisfied with how President Duterte is governing the country so far while almost 70 percent of the respondents agreed on the credibility of the current administration.

Ironically, amidst the negative commentaries being received by the president from national and international sources because of his language, the survey shows that majority or 33.65 percent of Dabawenyos strongly agreed with his choice of words.

One of the most controversial issues the Duterte administration is facing right now is the war on drugs and the extrajudicial killings (EJK) which had been receiving criticisms both from local and international sectors.

In Davao City, the respondents were asked about their opinions on Davao Death Squad (DDS).

Majority or almost 28 percent agreed that the DDS is a way to solve criminality in the city while it was followed by a good 18 percent who do not know or have nothing to say about DDS, while more than seven percent agreed the DDS is against human rights.

Moreover, when asked whether or not they agree with how the problem on illegal drugs is being solved, 87 percent of the respondents said they do, while only three percent disagreed, explaining they see it as a violation of human rights and that the poor are the only ones caught.  The remaining respondents chose to not comment on the issue.

In addition, majority of Dabawenyos or 33 percent decided to keep mum when asked about whether they favor specifically the EJK or not.

The survey also revealed a same percentage chose not to comment further when asked about their satisfaction with the Senate hearing about the EJK.

Only during Duterte’s administration does the public reading of people allegedly involved in illegal drugs was done.

While some of the Filipinos see it as a negative thing with a purpose of embarrassing and threatening the lives of the people mentioned, majority of Dabawenyos, on the other hand, strongly agreed with this practice.
