Marcos Daughter Thanks President Duterte For Fulfilling Father’s Final Wish

A daughter of late President Ferdinand Marcos expressed gratitude on Friday to President Rodrigo Duterte for fulfilling her father’s last wish, which is to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.

In a press conference shortly after the burial of the late President, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos said it took 30 years of waiting before the wish was finally granted through the effort of President Duterte.

“Sa wakas, naipatupad sa araw na ito ang huling habilin ng aking ama na maihimlay kasama ang kapwa sundalo. Salamat kay President Duterte na nagmungkahi nito sa Korte Suprema. Tatlong dekada naming hinintay ang araw na ito. Salamat sa lahat ng sumuporta sa aming pamilya,” Imee Marcos said.

Aside from President Duterte, the Ilocos Norte Governor also thanked their supporters who fought their battles.

“Ang aking pamilya ay taos pusong nagpapasalamat sa inyong lahat na nagpatotoo sa karapatan niyang mahimlay sa Libingan ng mga Bayani,” she said.

The Governor described Friday’s event as a “dream come true” for the Marcos family who recently handed down the decision allowing a hero’s burial for the late President.

Meanwhile, former Senator Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. said the burial of his father only shows that Filipinos will now have a chance to mend the wound that has been dividing the nation for several decades already.

Bongbong said they went through the process patiently until the Supreme Court decided to allow the late President to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
