This, after he saw tributes for his wife in the papers, expressing their praises and love for the late senator. He reiterated that ""Sana nu'ng buhay pa ginawa 'yan."
"'Yung pagmamahal at papuri sa kaniya, sana naigawa nu'ng buhay pa siya," he said. "Dahil ang buhay niya—kamukha ni Presidente (Rodrigo) Duterte—binuhos nila sa pagsisilbi sa bayan at sa tao."
"Pero nu'ng buhay pa siya, hindi nabigyan, e," he added before walking inside the wake.
He then apologized to the media for being emotional.
The senator died in her sleep at about 8:52 a.m. while confined at St. Luke's Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City.
Miriam was dubbed as the "Iron Lady of Asia" for her no-nonsense drive against graft and corruption when she served all the three branches of the government—judicial, executive, and legislative.
Miriam was also known as a vocal politician as she was not afraid of expressing herself in any argument.
She was also loved by many especially the youth for her wit and a penchant for pick-up and "hugot" lines.
She was remembered as one of the most endearing figures in Philippine politics, pop culture and academia.
She was then having a battle against lung cancer when she ran for presidency for the third time earlier this year. She, was, however, placed in the fifth spot in the race led by then-Davao Mayor Duterte.
Miriam started her political career when she was elected senator in 1995. It was followed by another senatorial seat in 2004 and 2010, where she served as chair mostly of the foreign relations committee and the constitutional amendments committee.
