Criminal Case Against Leila de Lima To Be Filed Within This Week - Aguirre

A case against Senator Leila de Lima over her alleged linkage in the proliferation of illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison is being prepared and set to file within this week by Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre.

He said that they are preparing the complaint and arranging for a hearing at the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

"Nagkataon lamang na nauna itong hearing sa Kongreso. Hindi naman basta-basta magprepara ng kaso, lalo na sa isang mataas na opisyal katulad ni Sen. De Lima," Aguirre said.

"Pero 'wag kayong mag-alala, hindi lalampas ang linggo, kakasuhan na po namin kasi ayon sa aking assessment sa affidavit na nabasa ko... napaka (inaudible) ng kaso at 'yan pong pag-file ng kaso laban sa mga tao ng gobyerno na naging dahilan para kumalat ang droga sa NBP ay ifa-file na po namin sa lalong madaling panahon," he added.

The case against De Lima will rely on the affidavits of the witnesses composed of high profile inmates.

When Aguirre was asked about his trust on the witnesses, he replied: "Well, alam mo, ako ay 44 na taon nang litigator. Hindi ako naging empleyado ng gobyerno before. Alam ko kung nagsasabi ng totoo ang tao o hindi. Bigyan mo ako ng 10 minutes, sasabihin ko sa'yo kung totoo o hindi."

Recently, De Lima already said that she will not attend the said hearing.
