Davao City Receives Donation Of 1.6 Million Pieces Of PPE From China

The People’s Republic of China donated around 1.6 million pieces of protective gear to Davao City to help the medical facilities and hospitals catering to COVID-19 positive patients and patients under investigation (PUIs) regarding the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the city.

According to Angie Payosalan, OCD Davao Information Officer II that the PPE came in two batches, the first batch arrived on April 4 at 1:30 a.m., while the second batch arrived at 3 a.m. on April 5.

On the first batch, there were a total of 1,459,506 various PPE donated by China while 168,380 protective devices arrived the following day.

The donations include disposable masks, goggles, surgical gloves, shoe covers, N95 masks, protective suits, breathing machines, infrared thermometer, and Lianhua Qingwen capsule.

“All of these were turned over to the City Government of Davao for proper distribution,” Ms. Payosalan said.

The donations were received by the City Government of Davao, through the coordination with the OCD Davao.

“These PPE will be given to our frontliners, especially those health workers natin. These will help protect them and prevent transmission in the healthcare setting,” Ms. Payosalan said.

Meanwhile, Port of Davao District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria said while they expedited the process of the shipments, the port still inspected, assessed, and cleared the goods prior to release for distribution.

“Customs Davao assures the public that all medical supplies and donations arriving in Davao are expeditiously released following proper protocols and inspections. We make sure that there are no unnecessary delays on the release of these commodities and immediately distributed to our health workers,” Mr. Austria said.
