PBGen Danao To Offer Talisay Vice Mayor As SACRIFICE To Taal Volcano If Residents Return

The chief of the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) police on Tuesday, January 21, warned Talisay, Batangas Vice Mayor Charlie Natanauan that he will be thrown into the Taal Volcano as a “sacrifice” should residents listen to him and return to their homes in the lockdown areas.

“Nakikiusap po kami sa aming mga kababayan na kung pwede po sumunod tayo sa batas na ipinapatupad ngayon,” Calabarzon Police Chief Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said in an interview.

The police chief said that some people who live near the crater want to come back even if it is prohibited, but his team is giving their best to prevent the residents from doing so.

“Especially in the lockdown areas wherein we are now prohibited to enter within the 14-kilometer radius and dun po sa harapan ng crater, ang dami pa pong tao dyan na pumipilit na gustong pumasok pero ginagampanan po natin ang ating trabaho hangga’t kaya po natin,” he added.

Further, Brig. Gen. Danao appealed to Talisay Vice Mayor Charlie Natanauan to help him for the safety of everyone.

“Kay vice mayor po ng Talisay, nakikiusap po ako sa inyo bilang isang vice mayor ng lungsod o ng isang town dyan na please tumulong po kayo, wag na po kayo mag-udyok na pabalikin ‘yan,” he said.

Brig. Gen. Danao then said if anything happens because of Vice Mayor Natanauan, then he will offer him as a sacrifice to Taal Volcano.

“Kasi po pag ‘yan ay may nangyari, dahil sa pagu-udyok ninyo, pag nakita pa kitang buhay, iaalay kita sa bulkan na ‘yan,” he warned.

Brig. Gen. Danao’s warning comes after Vice Mayor Natanauan in an interview on Monday, appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to change the opinion of Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Chief Dr. Renato Solidum about the Taal Volcano’s situation.

“Ang plano ko as a vice mayor, ay ako ay humihingi ng kuwan kay Presidente Duterte, yung opinyon ng PHIVOLCS ay medyo baguhin, kasi masyado niyang pinalala ang sitwasyon ng balita,” Vice Mayor Natanauan said.

Vice Mayor Natanauan believes Dr. Solidum’s prediction that a major eruption will be coming soon is just his ‘opinion’.

“Sabi niya kasi masyado daw malakas itong putok na susunod, nag-iipon lamang. Opinyon niya ‘yun,” he added referring to Dr. Solidum.

As of date, the PHIVOLCS is sticking to its assessment that magma is rising from the volcano and an explosive eruption is still a possibility.

In addition, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said that they will stop allowing Batangas residents from visiting their homes to check on their pets and property, saying that he didn’t want to risk a situation where Taal will suddenly erupt “and in a matter of minutes everybody will die.”

Meanwhile, Talisay, Batangas Mayor Gerry Natanauan apologized on behalf of his brother for seemingly urging their constituents to return to their homes despite the government’s enforcement of a lockdown in their town which is located within the 14-kilometer danger zone around Taal Volcano.

“Pasensiya na po kayo doon. Ako po’y nahingi ng paumanhin doon. Taliwas po sa aking pinapatupad na lockdown ang kanyang panawagan,” Mayor Natanauan said in an interview.

When asked why Vice Mayor Charlie Natanauan said the things he did, the local chief executive said, “Hindi ko po alam e, kung bakit po siya ay nagkakaganon.”
