PLDT To Spend P11 Billion To Improve Internet Speed In The Philippines
The PLDT Incorporated, led by tycoon Manny Pangilinan, will
be spending P11 billion in the next two years to finance a modernization plan
which includes the shift to fiber internet for a better internet speed.
The budget was allotted to establish Fibr ports across the
country and upgrade over 1.3 million subscribers to fiber optics cable from
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).
“We are leveling up their broadband experience with the
migration of our DSL customers to Fibr-fast connectivity,” said Marco
Borlongan, PLDT first vice president and head of Home Business.
PLDT stated that its DSL plan use copper wire technology
with speeds of up to 15 Mbps.
Its Fibr plan use fiber optic technology with speeds of up
to 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps.
“This year, we’ve been rolling out fiber-to-the-home network
nationwide and we’ve also teamed up with world-renowned content platforms and
providers to ensure that our subscribers get the best possible home
entertainment experience,” Borlongan said.
The PLDT also stated that tests showed its internet speeds
and coverage had improved since the company implemented its fiber optics
program.
