Frank Drilon Questions Suspicious Predawn Search Of Slain Mayor Parojinog’s House

There’s too much of a coincidence, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said on the killing of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog vis-a-vis with death of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.

Senator Drilon questioned the time when the policemen served the search warrants that led to the eventual deaths of the mayors.

“Why are search warrants, served before dawn as in the cases of Mayor Espinosa and now Mayor Parojinog, result in the deaths of the persons being searched?” Senator Drilon asked.

Both happen to be tagged as alleged drug lords, he noted.

“Generally, a search warrant should be served in the daytime. While it may also be served anytime of the night, the issuing judge must so expressly specify it in the search warrant,” Senator Drilon said, citing Section 9, Rule 126 of the Rules of the Court.

In the case of Espinosa, the search warrant also served at predawn on a weekend.
