Cal State Northridge Will Win At Least One Big West Title With Kobe Paras Says Coach

Cal State Northridge head coach and former two-time NBA All-Star Reggie Theus is pretty high on Kobe Paras.

So high in fact that in the three years Kobe will play at CSUN, Theus believes that the Matadors will win at least one Big West championship.

CSUN only has two tournament championships so far and its last Big West title came eight years ago, during its last appearance in the NCAA tournament.

“Kobe’s got three years to play with me and I think in those three years we’re gonna win the Big West in one of those three years for sure,” Theus said on Paras’ impact on the Matadors once he finally plays after the upcoming NCAA season.

“That’s the only expectation: to win the Big West,” he added.

Per NCAA rules, Paras has to sit out the 2017-2018 season after he transferred from Creighton University where he played his true freshman year.

Despite that, Theus expects the 19-year-old rising star to improve in the year he’s not seeing action.

Playing for the Philippine national team in the 2017 Jones Cup and the 2017 Southeast Asian Games is part of Paras’ growth before he returns to CSUN to start school.

“He’s not gonna play next year, he’s got to sit out. But he’s gonna help our team get better because he’ll play against our guys,” Theus said.

“I haven’t gotten any feedback on what he’s doing now but I’m just glad he’s playing with older players, he’s playing against better players. It will really get him ready to come in and work with us in August when he gets back to school,” he added.
