PNP Assures Investigation Of 6,011 Homicide Cases, Drug-Related Or Not
The Philippine National Police (PNP) agreed on the suggestion
of Senator Grace Poe to continue seeking justice for the casualties of the
government’s war on drugs, instead of arguing on the correct figures and terms
to use.
“Tama po ‘yun. That is what we are doing already. That is
why all these incidents, homicide incidents whether drug-related or not, we are
continually conducting investigation. The very reason we give out the figures
is to show at hindi magamit for other purposes,” said PNP Spokesperson Dionardo
Carlos.
Earlier, PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said based on the
record of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM)
from July 1 to March 26, there were 6,011 homicide cases, of which 1,398 or
23.2 percent were related to illegal drugs, 828 or 13.8 percent were non
drug-related, while the 3,785 or 63 percent are still being investigated.
PNP Chief Dela Rosa said it was presented to correct reports
that there were 7,000 extrajudicial killings (EJKs) since the administration
launched its war on drugs.
Carlos said of the 6,011 homicide cases, 804 suspects were
identified and arrested while 594 suspects were also identified but still at
large.
However, Carlos failed to give the total number of the
casualties on their war on drugs.
From July 1 to January 31, 2,555 suspected drug
personalities were killed during the 43,593 anti-illegal drug operations.
During the second phase of their drug operations launched in
March, 60 have already been killed.
The figures were on top of the 1,398 drug related homicides
committed.
“What you do is you present these numbers who died during
police operations [and on homicide incidents] separately. These are numbers of
victims of homicide cases determined to be drug-related. Huwag nating
pagsamahin,” said Carlos.
“Walang criminal liability dun sa 2,500 or 2,642. They died
under regularity in the performance of the police officer. ‘Yung death under
investigation (1,398) may criminal intent to kill the victims. Kaya nga
hinihiwalay natin. These are homicide cases. Hindi natin pinagsasama,” he
added.
Carlos said their deaths are connected to the illegal drugs
but they cannot be directly considered as casualties from war on drugs.
