Duterte Spokesperson Says New York Times ‘Demolition Job’ Against The PH President ‘Very Obvious’
Malacañang believed Monday, March 27, that the critics of
President Rodrigo Duterte have launched a “well-funded” campaign against him to
pay “hack writers” of American daily newspaper New York Times (NYT), who are “focused
on undermining him.”
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, in a statement,
said that the NYT’s “demolition job” against the President appears to be “very
obvious,” especially now that he is getting a “very high approval” from the
majority of the Filipino people.
Abella questioned NYT’s release in just one week of news
feature “Becoming Duterte: The Making of a Philippine Strongman” narrating his
rise to power under the context of violence; an editorial “Accountability for
Duterte” including “unsubstantiated claims” of his critics; and a video
documentary “When a President Says, I’ll Kill You” highlighting drug killings.
Despite this, the Presidential Spokesperson said the Duterte
administration would remain unfazed and would just focus on its pledge to rid
the country of illegal drugs, crimes, and corruption.
“NYT’s very obvious demolition work flies in the face of the
very high approval of PPRD enjoy. The newspaper tries to stir global outrage in
a nation that welcomes its newfound peace and order,” Abella said.
“One can only conclude that certain personalities and
politicians have mounted a well-funded campaign utilizing hack writers and
their ilk in their bid to oust PRRD. However, the administration will not be
deterred in fulfilling its promise of building a progressive and inclusive
nation free from drugs, crimes and corruption,” he added.
Abella made the statement in response of the 15-minute video
documentary that was freshly released by the NYT.
The video documented the victims of drug killings, their
grieving relatives, and some journalists who cover them.
Abella earlier chided the NYT for writing a “cynical and
unfair” report about the life of President Duterte.
He alleged that some “well-heeled clients with shady
motives” paid the international newspaper to publish articles against the President.
