$1 Billion Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu Link Bridge Of Pres. Duterte To Start Construction This Year
The $1-Billion bridge connecting
the four islands in the Visayas is to start the construction this year and expected
to be completed within the term of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Department of Public Works
Secretary Mark Villar said the Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu Link Bridge is the
“most ambitious bridge program in the history of our nation.”
Villar, along with National
Economic and Development Authority Director General Ernesto Pernia,
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, and Bases Conversion and the
Development Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Vivencio Dizon, held
a press conference, to bare the nine infrastructure projects of the Duterte
administration, which will start construction this year.
The Duterte administration wants to
decongest Manila and disperse the development in the regions.
Villar said the Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu
Link Bridge Project, after its completion, is seen to replace San Juanico
Bridge, which links Samar and Leyte, as the longest bridge in the country.
He said the length of the bridges
that will connect Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros and Cebu, ranges from two to 10
kilometers.
“Once finished, you will be able to
take a road trip to Iloilo and Cebu,” Villar said.
He said that 25 percent of the
budget is allocated to the nationwide decongestion program of the
administration.
Pernia, for his part, said the
infrastructure projects, including the Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu Link Bridge,
have gone through the “eye of the needle” and are ready to be implemented by the
concerned agencies this year.
He said the projects are already in
the state of bidding, adding that it will generate more jobs once the
construction begins.
Pernia added that the “work regimen
of 24 hours a day, seven days a week” will hasten the construction of the
infrastructure projects.
He warned though that the works can
cause inconvenience to the public.
“Before the country can rise up and
be world-class, there will be some inconvenience. If there is construction
going on, it can cause inconvenience,” he added.
Tugade, meanwhile, said the infrastructure
projects can address unemployment and traffic problems in the country.
“Infrastructure means connectivity
and mobility, connectivity among local government units and mobility to go to
one place to another,” he added.

ReplyDeleteto whom you trust doing good to the people of the Philippines...for me...TATAY DIGONG DUTERTE IS MY CHOICE...HE DO WHAT SHOULD BE DONE UPON PHILIPPINES.
ReplyDeleteRoads are terrific idea for the country. It gives employment during construction, it relieves traffic congestion in cities, it opens up the country sides so people do not over populate the cities, it increases the value of lands in the country sides, it makes it easy to transport farm goods to markets and city goods to homes, it is saves gas and wear and tear on vehicles, it's essential for tourism.
ReplyDeleteGood roads are good investment.
WOW! I have been wishing and dreaming of this incredible project of putting all these Visayan islands together by means of a bridge since I was a little kid. My God, if this bullish project is realized, the Visayas would become the dragon and super economy of the entire Philippines, considering Cebu's strong and constant economy alone.
ReplyDeleteA Project (Infra) unless it is completed and enjoyed by the people, it is a good project, I voted Pres. Duterte last election bearing in mind to achieve change in our country, but I feel it is hard for him (the president) to do it. Like in the Negros Oriental alone, the DPWH is not doing good to the roads and bridges here. . Bridges and roads had been demolished, to show rehabilitation to the people, but these roads are still passable and in good shape, there are more problems that have to be attended first, like widening or the proper placement of canals and drainage. I think billions had been wasted by these type of projects, I suggest that our President should create a Hot Website, so that we can post our comments, complaints, and suggestion to our government. Mr. President please send an investigator to know that projects in the 2nd district of Negros Oriental are not good.
