PNP Chief Bato Order Dismissal Of 174 Cops Positive For Drug Use
Philippine National Police Director General Ronald “Bato”
Dela Rosa ordered the dismissal of 174 PNP personnel who tested positive in
drug tests.
Dela Rosa vowed to give the dismissed personnel a hard time
using technicalities and other backers for reinstatement under his watch, even
if they have long retired.
“Once I sign it, then these 174 should say goodbye to the
service. And don’t attempt to have you reinstated because I will block it,”
Dela Rosa said in a press conference Monday, November 28.
After Dela Rosa assumed the top PNP post on July 1, the
entire 170,000 PNP personnel were subjected to mandatory drug tests.
In the Internal Affairs Service’s list submitted to Dela
Rosa, a total of 174 policemen across the country tested positive in the
initial and confirmatory tests so far.
Among the 174 personnel are 167 uniformed men.
“It is already for my signature, for my approval. I will
sign it in order to lessen our headache,” said Dela Rosa.
He said the recommendation of the IAS for dismissal went
through an intense due process which includes giving those concerned a chance
to explain.
Based on previous PNP data, the highest ranking officer who
tested in the drug test is a chief inspector – equivalent to a military major.
The PNP Chief earlier vowed to rid the PNP of cops involved
in the illegal drug trade.
So far, more than 100 policemen were already sent to
conflict-torn areas.
