Duterte Admin To Study Luzon To Mindanao Bridge Link, Budget Chief Says
The Duterte Administration will study the feasibility of
building a bridge link between Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao as President Rodrigo
Duterte moves to overhaul the country’s creaking infrastructure, a Cabinet
official said Monday.
According to Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno, President Duterte
plans to spend up to P9 trillion in the next six years to build new roads,
bridges and transport terminals in a construction spree that is expected to
generate at least one million jobs.
The Budget Chief said he would ask the National Economic
Development Authority to study the possibility of linking the country’s three
main islands through a bridge.
Diokno also said that aside from construction, the new jobs
will be generated in the tourism and manufacturing sectors.
Higher public spending and robust consumption, coupled with
increased investments once foreign ownership restrictions are lifted could
drive economic growth to 10 percent, he added.
