The Reason Why Duterte Wants To Cut Alliance With The United States Revealed

The repeated tirades of President Rodrigo Duterte against the United States in breaking away with the superpowers has to do with his strategy in negotiating with China.

A political analysts named Prof. Richard Heydarian told GMA news that "Signalling niya iyon sa China. Gusto niyang sabihin sa China na huwag kayong mag-alala at iba akong presidente hindi ako katulad ng mga predecessors ko."

"Parang sinasabi niya na hindi ako tuta ng ibang powers, independent ako. So 'pag nag-negotiate tayo, tayong dalawa lang hindi kasama ang US," Heydarian added.

Recently, Pres. Duterte told that he wants to cut the Philippines economic and military alliance with the United States on his speech in Beijing, China.

Prof. Heydarian told that we should wait for the developments in the coming months regarding the status of Panatag Shoal.

"It's too early to say that (missed opportunity). Dapat tingnan muna natin ang mga mangyayari in the coming months. Magkakaroon ba ng access ang ating mangingisda dyan sa Panatag Shoal? Kasi sinabi ng arbitration, very clear na historic fishing ground," Heydarian said.

Prof. Heydarian added : "Oo, maganda ang trato nila sa ating Pangulo. Oo, nag-sign tayo ng potentially $24 billion of deals pero wala pa tayong nakikitang good will sa China pagdating sa West Philippine Sea, pagdating sa Panatag Shoal, pagdating sa nga Kalayaan Group of Islands at saka yung ibang areas ng ating exclusive economic zones at ang ating best insurance policy diyan ay United States,"

Lastly, Heydarian said that the administration must make sure that China will not take advantage of the economic gains they will provide in compromising the Philippines rights in our territory.
