President Duterte To Declare Revolutionary Government Amid Destabilization Threats

President Rodrigo Duterte warned that he will impose a revolutionary government if his political rivals would push through with their plan to undermine his administration and remove him from office.

The President made the warning in an interview with broadcaster Erwin Tulfo aired on government-owned PTV4 Friday, October 13.

“If your destabilization seems to prosper and it becomes chaotic, I will not hesitate to declare a revolutionary government until the end of my term,” President Duterte said.

President Duterte issued the remark as he once again insisted that the “Reds,” or the communist rebels, were in connivance with the “yellow,” a political color associated with opposition Liberal Party (LP), to remove him from office.

On Thursday, the President challenged the “yellow” and “red” parties to form a single group that would take a stance against his policies.

He said it would be better if both groups would have “one command” so he could “focus on all of them.”

“To yellows and reds, I would be happy really if they will start to merge into one command. These communists and Liberal [members] and others who want to oust me, just create a single group,” he said in a speech at the inauguration of the newly-renovated MalacaƱang press briefing room last Thursday.

The President has apparent acrid relations with the LP who expressed strong opposition to his policies, including his war against illegal drugs.

On the other hand, President Duterte has also scrapped the peace negotiations with the communists following the series of offensives of New People’s Army against government forces in the countryside.

In August, President Duterte stressed that the country would be able to “resolve hindrances to progress, if a revolutionary form of state is established.”

He reiterated that a revolutionary state was also declared by the late President Corazon Aquino in 1986 to end the martial law proclaimed by the late President Ferdinand Marcos.

President Duterte, this time, said revolutionary government would be the solution to stop the communists and his critics from continuing with its plan to disrupt the government.

“I am concerned because if war erupts, I will really go after you, including the NDF (National Democratic Front)… If I will declare a revolutionary government, I will arrest all of you. I am not threatening you. Just remember that,” the Chief Executive said.

“And I will arrest all of you and we can go to a full scale war against the Reds,” he added.
