Uber Commits Not To Pass On Cost Of P190 Million Fine To Commuters
Transport Network Company (TNC) Uber assured it will not
pass on the cost of the P190-million fine imposed by the Land Transportation
Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to its commuters.
LTFRB board member and spokesperson lawyer Aileen Lizada
said Uber made the commitment during their technical working group meeting.
“Uber will issue a statement and committed not to,” Lizada
said.
Earlier, Lizada said it is possible for Uber to “manipulate”
the system of their application in order to raise the price surge.
LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra and board members Lizada and
Engineer Ronald Corpus met with the officials and legal counsels of Uber and
Grab Philippines Wednesday, August 30.
On Tuesday, the LTFRB lifted Uber’s month-long suspension as
it issued a check amounting to P190-million as payment for violating the ban on
accepting new drivers into their platform.
It was the first time since the LTFRB converted a suspension
into a fine according to Lizada.
After the payment of the fine and the assistance to its
driver partners, Uber eventually hit the road at around 5pm on Tuesday.
