President Duterte Declares September 1 As Regular Holiday For Eid'l Adha
Malacañang
declared September 1, Friday, as a regular holiday throughout the Philippines
in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.
President
Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, August 28, signed Proclamation 297, declaring
September 1 as a regular holiday, upon the recommendation of the National
Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
Republic Act 9849 states that Eid’l Adha, one of the Islam’s two major feasts along with Eid’l Fitr, shall be celebrated as a regular holiday.
Eid’l Adha
is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world and
is considered the holier than Eid'l Fitr.
Proclamation
297, which was also signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, was
released Tuesday.
