Philippines To Buy 15 Medium Tanks Worth P3.2 Billion Under President Duterte

The Philippine military is now eyeing 15 medium tanks worth Php3.233 billion, said MaxDefense Philippines who has reliable sources knowledgeable of security and defense acquisition programs.

The initial plan was 14 medium tanks worth Php3.948 billion, however, MaxDefense source said “that this info was only valid until last week.”

“The new plan is actually for 15 Medium Tanks, with a smaller budget at Php3.233 billion,” MaxDefense said.

On Wednesday, August 16, National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said they are looking at the possibility of acquiring some medium tanks for military armored units.

Secretary Lorenzana said acquiring main battle tanks is “not really” necessary.

“We do not expect a lot Marawi-type conflict in the future. Therefore, a couple of medium tanks would do, for contingency in urban warfare and for training,” he added.
