Classes, Office Work Suspensions On July 24 Due To SONA Of President Duterte

There will be no classes and office work in some universities in Manila and Quezon City on Monday, July 24, for President Rodrigo Duterte’s second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Classes and office work in Miriam College, De La Salle University and De La Salle-College of St. Benilde are suspended in anticipation of heavy traffic and mass demonstrations in the areas near the universities.

Moreover, classes in Ateneo de Manila Senior High School are likewise suspended in accordance to the city-wide class suspension announced by the local government of Quezon City.

Last week, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista announced the suspension of classes in all levels in both private and public schools in the city.

Furthermore, the police and military have set stricter security measures for President Duterte’s second SONA, following a string of attacks by communist rebels, police said Sunday.

Authorities have relayed the security protocol to activist groups that are set to mount protest during Monday’s SONA, said National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Oscar Albayalde.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said President Duterte’s second SONA may run for about an hour and a half.
