Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has provided financial
assistance to victims of a deadly road mishap in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija that
killed 35 people and injured 44 others, a transportation official said
Saturday, April 22.
Aileen Lizada, Spokesperson of the Land Transportation
Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), said President Duterte gave P20,000
each for the families of victims who died when the Leomarick Trans bus fell
into a 100-foot deep ravine in Barangay Capintalan, Carranglan town last
Tuesday.
Lizada said that passengers who sustained injuries would
receive P10,000 each.
She said the financial assistance would be distributed by
LTFRB Chairperson Martin Delgra III.
Delgra, in a separate text message, said he is now on his
way to the hospital in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, where some passengers were
rushed after the road incident.
“Will supervise release of insurance benefits to the
victims, dead and injured, 2 p.m. today at Bayombong,” he said.
President Duterte was initially scheduled to go to
Carranglan, Nueva Ecija on Thursday but had been cancelled.
Reports said the ill-fated bus was carrying more than 70
