Saudi Arabian Gov’t Grants 90 Days Amnesty To Undocumented Foreign Workers Starting March 29
The Saudi Arabian government has formally opened the
application for undocumented foreign workers who wish to get amnesty from the
government.
This, after King Salman signed an order giving 90 days for
illegal workers to process their documents.
“This is the easiest way for me to return home, God willing,
if I get qualified to be under the amnesty program provided by the Saudi
government,” said an undocumented Overseas Filipino Worker.
“We can bring over 200 for Filipinos for them to be included
in the first batch to avail of the amnesty. We will continue doing this,” said Consul
General Imelda Panolong.
The official said they expect an influx of Filipinos at
their office.
In the western region, there are over 5,000 Filipinos without legal documents.
The amnesty covers overstayers; persons with Hajj Umrah and
only a visit visa, those who escaped from their employers, and persons with
expired Iqama, as long as they do not any case with the police.
The application opened on March 29 and will conclude in
June.
This prompted the Philippine consulate to call on the
Filipinos who are illegally staying in Saudi Arabia to not hesitate and instead
immediately process their application.
“I am calling on Filipinos here in Jeddah and in the western
region of Saudi Arabia to grab this opportunity, the three months given to us
by the Saudi government and the king, to be able to fly back home without any
penalties in every step of the procedure,” said Consul General Panolong.
