Catbalogan Farmers Get P10 Million Worth Of Agriculture Projects From Duterte Gov’t
The agriculture sector in Catbalogan City recently availed
itself of “agricultural aide” amounting to P10.7 million from the Department of
Agriculture (DA) through the Bottom-Up-Budgeting (BUB) program under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Catbalogan Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan said the DA donated last
February 16 at least 32 units of Pump Irrigation System for Open Source for the
city’s 13 farmers’ associations.
About P5.2 million worth of infrastructure project was also
provided in support to the agriculture sector.
Other interventions include support to organic fertilizer
production worth P1.2 million, institution of sustainable agri-fishery
livelihood and fishery business investment worth P3.4 million, and the
programmed establishment of marine reserves and fish sanctuaries amounting to
P800,000.
“Just because it was given to us doesn’t mean we will not
put value on it; rather, my request to you on behalf of the government is that
you provide extra care over it for you to reap bigger gains from it and for us
to show our gratitude to those benefactors who might extend further assistance
in the future,” Uy-Tan told the beneficiaries.
She also thanked the DA-Eastern Visayas represented by
Mayflor Realino, the Regional BUB Action Officer, and Engr. Ma. Luisa Capili.
Uy-Tan also reminded barangay leaders about their role in the projects.
“The barangay leaders play a major role in guiding and
reporting issues and concerns to authorities for them to quickly act on it,”
the Mayor said.
She said achieving food security is indeed a difficult
struggle, but with everyone’s participation and coordination, Catbalogan City
is not far from turning it into a reality.
