Construction Of Drug Rehabilitation Center In Lingayen, Pangasinan Officially Starts
Governor Amado Espino III said the construction of a drug
rehabilitation center for lightly and moderately affected drug surrenderers in
Burgos town in Lingayen, Pangasinan has started.
This came a week after the donation of a two-hectare lot
where the project will rise was formalized through a deed of donation signed by
Belen Cabiles, widow of the late Burgos Mayor Demetrio Cabiles, and their only
son Aldrin.
It was an affirmation to the donation made by the Cabiles
patriarch in the 1990s to the Provincial Government.
Espino expressed confidence that the drug rehabilitation
center will be completed before the rainy season sets in this year.
The Provincial Government initially set aside P8 million for
the project but Espino expressed his desire to also seek help from the National
Government, particularly the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and the
Department of Health.
With regard the operation of the rehab center, Espino said
he will tap the support of the Provincial Health Office on how the staffing
process will be established.
Meanwhile, Espino thanked the organization World Riders for
donating some 17,000 copies of the Bible for drug surrenderers in Pangasinan.
Espino and Senior Superintendent Ronald Oliver Lee presided
over the ceremonial distribution of the Bibles to the surrenders who assembled
at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office grounds last February 4.
Espino said aside from rehabilitating the drug surrenderers,
there is also a need to introduce spiritual reform to them to complete the
cycle of redeeming their old selves.
He commended the Philippine National Police for partnering
with the Provincial Government in maintaining peace and order in Pangasinan,
noting that with the active support of the men in uniform, the National
Government’s war on drugs became successful.
Word Riders Philippines is a group of Big Bike enthusiasts
with a heart to support the vision and mission of the Philippine Bible Society
to place a Bible in every Filipino home.
Thus, the slogan “Riding to help place a Bible in every
Filipino home” was conceptualized.
The Bibles that were distributed in Pangasinan were Ilocano
translations.
