President Duterte Approves P2,000 Christmas Bonus For Casual Government Employees
Over 100,000 contract of service, job order and
project-based workers in government will receive a modest Christmas gift of
P2,000 each from the agencies they are connected with.
According to Agriculture Chief Manny Piñol, President
Rodrigo Duterte during the Cabinet meeting on Monday, December 5, approved the
recommendation of Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo that COS, JO and PB
workers in government be also given cash gifts by government.
Under the present guidelines by the Civil Service Commission
(CSC), only regular and casual plantilla workers in government are entitled to
the 13th and 14th month pay from government.
The COS, JO and PB workers are not considered direct
employees of government and are not covered by the guidelines on the granting
of bonuses.
Furthermore, Sec. Taguiwalo, who earlier recommended a
minimum of P10,000 for each of over P100,000 JOs, COS and PB workers, said that
government should also recognize the contributions of these workers to the
efforts to serve the people.
However, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno, explained that
the amount would involve an estimated P3.5-B in additional budget from
government.
Moreover, President Duterte agreed that JOs, COS and PB
workers should be given a cash gift for them to share with their families on
Christmas.
It was agreed that each of the workers will receive an
incentive of P2,000 which President Duterte approved.
