Pres. Duterte: The First Filipino President To Enter Forbes List Most Powerful Person In the World
President Rodrigo Duterte has joined the ranks of the World’s
Most Powerful People, as listed by Forbes Magazine.
Published online on December 14, President Duterte entered
the list at 70th place. The list features 74 personalities “one person out of
every 100 million whose action meant the most.”
President Duterte, the only Filipino and the first Philippine President who have entered
the Forbes list, was elected in May 2016, landed on the list barely six months
after assuming power in July.
Furthermore, President Duterte is one of 11 new names on the
list. Newcomers also include Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
(13th); Travis Kalanick, CEO of Uber (64th); Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney
Company (67th); and Mike Pence, Vice President-Elect of the United States
(69th).
At the top of the list is Russian President Vladimir Putin,
followed by US President-elect Donald Trump. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is
in 3rd place, Chinese President Xi Jinping is in 4th, and Pope Francis is in
5th.
Bill Gates (7th) and Mark Zuckerberg (10th) help complete
the Top 10. While outgoing US President Barack Obama fell to 48th place.
In addition, Tesla Motors’ Elon Musk (21st), French
President Francois Hollande (23rd), Alibaba’s Jack Ma (28th), Apple’s Tim Cook
(32nd), Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (37th), North Korea’s Kim Jong-un
(43rd), Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (66th) and Uber’ Travis Kalanick
(68th) also made the list.
