BAHAY PAGBABAGO: House Of Former Actress And Drug Queen, Evita Ebora, To Give HOPE To DRUG DEPENDENTS

In Guiguinto, Bulacan - A retired starlet with the screen name of “Evita Ebora”

(Angelica Gallaron-Crespo in real life) who was featured in underrated movies in the 1980s and was linked to illegal drugs in the 1990s has decided to be remembered as a good samaritan, after she converted one of her houses in the city, into a drug treatment center.

Mayor Ambrosio Cruz Jr. opened Bahay Pagbabago Rehabilitation Center at a subdivision in Barangay Sta. Cruz earlier this month, and has for a fact welcomed its first set of clients composed of 30 drug dependents. They were among the nearly 700 people who surrendered to the Bulacan police after admitting using or selling illegal drugs.

The three-story house was foreclosed after it transferred ownership several times. It was eventually acquired by the government. Cruz in his statement said that they selected the house for a drug rehabilitation center because the story behind it is very inspiring. Its former owner was a drug queen and they knew how Evita’s life improved when she abandoned drugs.

Ebora was linked to large-scale drug trafficking. The charges were eventually dismissed.

Ebora’s stepfather, Dario Mendoza, 71, said the retired actress left the illegal drug trade for good and is now living a quiet life overseas with her family. She was implicated in the sale of illegal drugs. But after her cases were dismissed, they counseled her and encouraged her to leave that life. She listened well enough to their advice and she now lives a drug-free life.

Several properties in Guiguinto and Bulacan towns had already been bought by Ebora. Bahay Pagbabago shares the building with the town government’s food production, nutrition and science center as well as a disaster evacuation facility. The government is looking forward to the positive outcome of this drug treatment center. And may this be the start of more inspiration to make drug pushers and users see the betterment of living a drug-free life.
